Standard Requirements

At Camp Walden, we nurture the development of all of our campers as we assist them in building strong relationships, strengthening self-confidence, and challenging them to gain new skills. In order to accomplish the goals we set for our campers, we rely on a staff of enthusiastic, motivated and skilled women and men who love camp and enjoy working with children.

Working at Camp Walden is extremely rewarding but as we all know, rewarding opportunities are most often also filled with many challenges. To help insure that this opportunity is right for you, we provide you with the following information:

1. When you work so closely with people, especially children, you are constantly managing and juggling the many different emotions, thoughts and opinions that exist.

2. Our staff work extremely long hours. Because most of our staff lives with campers, they actually are working or are on-call 24 hours a day – seven days per week – for two months straight. (There is some time off but it is very limited.)

3. The staff at camp commit to the entire camp season. It is disruptive to our campers to have staff leaving early for other commitments so it is imperative that each staff member is available for the entire season.

4. There is a staff week prior to camp that all staff members must attend. Please see the “Important Camp Dates – 2006” under the Staff section of our web site.

5. We have a drug-free, alcohol-free and non-smoking work environment with a zero-tolerance policy. It is important that these considerations are compatible with your lifestyle if you are interested in working with us.
